Change is needed - can compliance help show the way? A message from the ICA senior leadership team

Written by International Compliance Association on Friday June 5, 2020

It is incumbent on us as part of the compliance community to speak up about the troubling racial violence occurring in the United States and around the world. As a compliance industry membership organisation that provides training, education and insights, we are every day talking about ethics, conduct and doing the right thing for the right reasons.  Discrimination is not new but now is the time for sustainable change within our communities.  Change that focuses on accountability, education and listening.

Compliance professionals can provide a framework to deliver this change.  Just as highly regulated businesses must answer to stakeholders through a series of checks and balances , so too should public institutions be held accountable by their constituents. Just as compliance leaders enact change through education, communication and reinforcing messages around the importance of judgement and ethical behaviour, so too can governments, public institutions, and community leaders take steps towards cultural change by also embracing these practices..

Enacting change is possible. And the compliance community can help show the way.
