Dr David Jenkins-Handy, FICA 
Director of Quality and Audit

David has a chartership with the Chartered Institute of Educational Assessors (CIEA) and a Diploma in Compliance. David also sits on Accreditation Panels for the Finance Accreditation Agency in Malaysia. David leads ICA’s certification conformity body Secretariat. He has been the principal content writer of postgraduate manuals for governance, risk and compliance, and for financial crime compliance drawing on a wide variety of research. David works closely with the divisional Managing Director and ICA’s CEO in the development of the certification conformity body’s strategic planning.

David has developed strengths in mapping programmes against national and international standards (such as ISOs) globally. Prior to his current role, David performed a variety of offices for ICA, which has enabled him to develop his knowledge and understanding of issues in corporate governance, regulatory compliance and risk management.


Sharon Ward, FICA
Strategic adviser and Chair of the Certification Committee
A regulatory compliance specialist, Sharon is Chair of the Certification Committee and Chief Examiner (Governance, Risk & Compliance) at the International Compliance Association (ICA). She is the Module Director for the Financial Services Compliance Elective of the Chartered Banker MBA programme (CBMBA) at Bangor Business School and teaches on professional education programmes both in the UK and worldwide, including those of International Compliance Training (ICT). A former senior compliance practitioner in the UK, Sharon is involved in a number of ongoing related projects. 

Sharon has contributed to key industry initiatives within financial services compliance over a number of years and has served as Chair of the Compliance Institute in the UK, where she was also a member of its Professional Education Board.  A Fellow of the ICA, Sharon is also a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Educational Assessors (CIEA), holds an MSc in Financial Regulation & Compliance Management and is currently undertaking doctoral studies at Bristol University.


Bill Howarth
President of the International Compliance Association
Originally from a legal and academic background, Bill spent more than 30 years lecturing at universities across the world. Bill’s mandate and passion is the professionalisation of the status of ‘Compliance’ as a discipline and bringing training, knowledge and compliance information to the industry. He has published extensively, including more than 20 books, manuals and texts in a range of disciplines, including law, wealth management, compliance and anti money laundering. Bill speaks extensively at international conferences and is an advisor to a range of global regulators in the field of compliance.

Merisha Stevenson
Senior Manager

Merisha is a strategic thinker, who has strengths in business leadership and development, problem solving, project management, presenting, radio production and broadcasting. She has expertise as a Non-Executive Director, Trust Board Member and mentor. She has a practical understanding of the preparation of contracts, contract resolutions, corporate governance, strategic business development, and change management developed over 17 years as a consultant. She has become a risk management specialist, having developed her knowledge and expertise serving as a Trust Board Member for the Staffordshire and West Midlands Probation Trust over 8 years. During this time she headed the Business and Performance Committee and was a long-standing member of the Audit, HR and the Joint Negotiation Committee’s.

Merisha is also a qualified assessor. Recently, she has undertaken and successfully completed training on ISO 17021 and has grown her experience of ISO certification. She is also the Midlands Director for the Women Speakers Association and a Non-Executive Board Member of the Fry Housing Trust. All of her strengths and experience have been brought together in the role of senior manager for ICA Compass, working towards the development of the business, the certification of ICA and the accreditation of Compass with UKAS.
